Capturing a perfect moment is irrelevant to Rachel. Instead, she draws inspiration from the authenticity of an un-staged scene, taken in a split second with her analog camera. The curiosity from a new environment inspires her, which is why a majority of her photographs come from her travels. Rachel credits these destinations, for a deeper appreciation of human diversity found across cultures. In turn, this appreciation has fueled her desire to capture the complexity found in both people and places.
Some of Rachel’s photographs should stand alone, while others complement each other to compose a story. Her editing process blends the stories she wants to share, by layering various images from her travels. Her aim is to provide both contrasting and complementary works, that give the viewer a unique opportunity to conceptualize the pieces as they relate to their own life experiences. The ability to connect to a piece is unifying, but the message taken from it individualizes us.
Rachel was born and raised in Texas, but calls London home.
